Webinar: What is Open Database Connector (ODBC)? 16 November 2016, Online, 15.00-16.00
A database system normally consists of two parts - even though it is not always obvious to the end user:
- the database engine which deals with the storage and querying of the data
- some kind of user interface which allows the user to write queries and see the results
However, not all database systems provide a user interface and there may be situations where a user would prefer to use their own user interface, e.g. Excel or R. Open Database Connector (ODBC) allows the user to connect a user interface to a database engine. This webinar will cover:
- a basic definition of ODBC (Open Database Connector), where to obtain the software and how to install it
- examples of using ODBC software to access different database systems from third party applications such as Excel and from programming languages like R and Python
This introductory webinar is intended for researchers with no previous experience of programming or of using databases. More information and booking
