March Spotlight: Be Courageous: Studying Sensitive, Political, or Hot-button Issues

As researchers, how can we be sensitive when interacting with traumatized participants or find appropriate and reliable sources of data? In this month's series, Methodspace will offer practical suggestions from experienced researchers.

March Mentor-in-Residence

Meet our Mentor-in-Residence, Dr. Sharon Ravitch, Professor of Practice at the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education, and author of Qualitative Research: Bridging the Conceptual, Theoretical, and Methodological. To bring in the voices of emerging researchers, she is generating a series of posts in collaboration with a diverse group of current and former students. Dr. Nathan Durdella, author of the new Conducting Research with Human Participants, will discuss issues for researchers who study vulnerable populations and need approval from an IRB or ethics board. Dr. Ravitch had a conversation with Janet last year about multimodal qualitative research with a focus on visual methods.
