Teaching & Mentoring with Open Access SAGE Research Methods Journals
Pointing students or mentees to articles that describe or exemplify research methods is one of the responsibilities of methods faculty or dissertation/thesis supervisors. Open access journals are especially useful when you don't have access to the databases offered in a robust academic library. Here are some SAGE journals you can tap for readings, with a recent (2022) article from each. These journals are multidisciplinary, so include a wide range of perspectives. Can’t find an article that fits your project? There are many open-access articles in the subscription-based journals too. Go to https://journals.sagepub.com, use the advanced search option, and choose the option for open access content only. Big Data & Society (BD&S) is an Open Access peer-reviewed scholarly journal that publishes interdisciplinary work principally in the social sciences, humanities and computing and their intersections with the arts and natural sciences about broad implications of Big Data.

The International Journal of Qualitative Methods is the peer-reviewed interdisciplinary open access journal of the International Institute for Qualitative Methodology (IIQM) at the University of Alberta, Canada. The journal, established in 2002, is an eclectic international forum for insights, innovations and advances in methods and study designs using qualitative or mixed methods research.
